Study on Khadi and Village Industries
The Ministry of Micro,Small & Medium Enterprises from time to time conducts studies on khadi and village industries (KVI) and its various aspects. The latest one is the study carried out by an independent agency namely PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2008, with the overall objective of revitalizing the KVI sector, the study recommended a set of reform measures aimed at:

- achieving sustainability of khadi by repositioning it and linking it to needs of the market as well as selective use of subsidy.

- enhancing welfare of artisans through their greater involvement in the process as well as better remuneration and quality of life.

- greater thrust on select traditional village industries.

This information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Dinsha Patel in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
