Increase in Urban Population
The country’s urban population is increasing at faster rate than the total population. The total projected population of India as per Census for 2026 (as on 1st March) is 1,399,838 thousands and the projected urban population is 468,049 thousands, i.e., 33.43 percent population would be living in urban areas in the year 2026. This is result of migration which is driven by demographic and economic factors and distortions in the process may have undesirable consequences on economic growth and development. He said that it is not the policy of Government to either check or facilitate migration to the cities as the process of migration is driven by demographic and economic factors and distortions in the process may have undesirable consequences on economic growth and development.
