Vijaya Bank Signed MoU with Unique Identification
Authority of India (UIDAI)
Vijaya Bank has become a Registrar for the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Bank and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), at a function held at New Delhi. Shri Krishna L. Bagalkot, General Manager, Credit Priority & Retail Department, Head Office and Shri Rajesh Bansal, Assistant Director General, UIDAI, signed the MoU in the august presence of Shri Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, UIDAI and Shri R.S. Sharma, DG & MD, UIDAI. On the occasion Shri Nandan Nilekani said the bank will serve the people of India by providing them unique identification numbers (Aadhaar) and will assist the poor in accessing Government schemes. Vijaya Bank is the 19th Bank which has signed a MoU with UIDAI.
Shri Albert Tauro, Chairman & Managing Director of Vijaya Bank, who was present at the occasion, said that, with the signing of the MoU, the Bank became a Partner of the UIDAI which has been set up by the Government of India, for issuing Aadhaar numbers to all the residents of India. As a Registrar, the bank can enroll residents in the UID Project and assist in the various stages of the Project.
The bank will set up a Core Team to oversee the implementation of the UID Project in the identified places/districts along with technology providers, Business Correspondent Service Providers and other associates to issue Aadhaar numbers to account holders and other residents.
Vijaya Bank also plans to dovetail a Financial Inclusion Plan with Aadhaar enrolments for new customers. It will facilitate issuance of the Aadhaar number for its existing customers which will enable the Bank to deploy Aadhaar based services across various delivery channels like Micro ATMs, ATMs, etc.
