Irrigation Projects Sponsored by Government

This Ministry is providing financial assistance to some of the identified irrigation projects under different components of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), as well as other ongoing schemes. The details of projects included under various schemes of DoWR, RD&GR during 2019-20 to 2021-22 is given at Annexure.

Apart from the above, water being a State subject, it is for the States concerned to take up irrigation projects as per their priorities and funds availability. The information regarding these projects is also being maintained by the concerned State Governments themselves.

Under PMKSY- Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), 46 number major/ medium priority irrigation projects included for financial assistance during 2016, have been completed with creation of additional irrigation potential of 24.35 lakh hectare. In addition, 3 number projects under Command Area Development & Water Management component, being implemented pari-passu with PMKSY-AIBP for the priority projects, have also been completed during 2016-22, covering cultivable command area of 16.42 lakh hectare.

Further, under Ground Water sub-component of PMKSY-Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP), out of the thirteen projects included during 2016-2022, six projects have been completed, creating irrigation potential of 69,378 hectare. Similarly, under Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) sub-component of PMKSY-HKKP, 2,732 schemes have been completed, creating 2.58 lakh hectare of irrigation potential during 2016-22. In addition, 1,253 number of water bodies have been renovated under Repair, Renovation and Restoration of water bodies sub-component of PMKSY-HKKP during 2016-22, creating/ restoring 83,010 hectare of irrigation potential.

Also, 26 number surface minor irrigation schemes have been completed with central assistance under Special Package to address agrarian distress in suicide prone districts of Vidarbha and Marathwada and for projects in chronically drought prone areas of rest of Maharashtra, creating 25,265 hectare irrigation potential till 2022, since its inception in the year 2018.
