SOUHARDYA DE RECEIVED THE PRADHAN MANTRI RASHTRIYA BAL PURASKAR 2021 IN THE FIELD OF ART & CULTURE

Souhardya De, a resident of Medinipur in West Bengal, has been awarded with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2021 in the field of Art & Culture. He aims to reinvigorate art & culture through his writing.

Souhardya De, born in 2004, is an author of historical fiction, an art and culture columnist, a podcaster and a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He writes articles on history, art and culture in various newspapers and magazines of India and abroad. His aim is to revitalize and invigorate the Indian art and culture, history and mythological epics through his works.

While talking to Press Information Bureau, Kolkata Souhardya expressed his gratitude towards his parents for developing his love for history and mythology. ‘My father and mother both are the teachers of history, father is a lecturer in Midnapur College and mother is a teacher of Pirakata High School, both of them used to tell me the historical facts in the story form which attracted me from my childhood’ said Souhardya, a student of class XI of Vidysagar Sishu Niketan of Paschim Medinipur district.

 Souhardya is highly influenced with the works of Amish Tripathi and Devdutt Pattanaik. ‘Their works inspired me a lot to venture into the field of historical literature’ said Souhardya the recipient of India Book of Records award in 2019 for his book The Chronicles of Suryavansh. He informed that a new book likely to be named ‘A dynastic decimation: When lust destroyed a Sultanate’ will be published soon where the story will revolve around the Mughal India.
